More from the Serengeti

We went to Dunia Camp in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, specifically to see the migration of the wildebeest and zebra. But just like the two stops before this camp, the rains had come early and as a result, the migration was much further south than was anticipated when the trip was planned. Not to be stopped, on our first full day in the Serengeti, we took off in 2 Land Cruiser pickups to find the migration. We were truly “On safari with Derek Dames”.  We headed south, beyond even the dirt roads and drove overland for 4 hours looking for the herds. We finally stopped for lunch under some trees. After lunch, as we just finished cleaning up (ok, the spotters cleaned up, we just hung around), the migration found us. A herd of wildebeest started running down from over a hilltop into an open area. After watching them for awhile, we continued on until we found the main body of the migration. Both the wildebeest and zebra migrate through the Serengeti, grazing on the grass. Other animals follow on the edges, feeding on the herd including hyena, lions and cheetah all of which we saw and photographed.
