Cats

I was traveling for work last week so I didn’t get a chance to process on any images or post to this blog. When I got home, my cat was waiting for me ( so was Nancy, but she doesn’t purr). So I thought I would go back to the images and look for cats. I finally figured out how to get some of the red out of the leopard night shots. It is really challenging to use those images in color instead of black and white as they were shot under a combination of yellow headlights and red spot lights, at a very high ISO and without a flash. So I am posting a couple of the leopard shots from Sarara Lodge in Kenya. I also went back to the images from the Serengeti in Tanzania and worked on some of the cheetah shots and a couple of more lions. I am also posting a shot of a Caracal Cat. This is a very hard to find cat about twice the size of a large house cat. It lives in the tall grass and eats birds that it catches by leaping into the air and taking them in low flight. It is very shy and we just got a fleeting glimpse of it before it went back into the grass. I couldn’t get close enough to get a real good shot, but this one gives you an idea of what they look like. The ears were really large. We did see more of them later at the animal orphanage at the Mt. Kenya Safari Club, but this was the only one in the wild.
